Laminate Flooring Cost Calculator

This prices a laminate floor once it is down, rather than what the planks cost on the shelf. Enter the room size, the carton coverage and price, and the rates you were quoted for underlayment, labour, taking the old floor up, subfloor preparation, trim and transition strips. It returns the cartons to buy, the spare left over, every line of the bill, the materials and labour subtotals and the installed cost per square foot. A second mode prices the same floor twice, laying it yourself against paying an installer, and shows what the hours you put in are earning. Every rate is an input rather than a national average, so the total is only as good as the quotes you feed it.

Every length, area and per-area rate on this form is read in the unit you pick here, and the answer comes back in it too.

Measure the room, put in the rates you were quoted, and this returns the whole installed bill line by line.

Around 10% for a straight lay in a rectangular room, 15% or more for a diagonal, a herringbone or a floor broken up by closets and angles.
Printed on the end of the box. Most laminate cartons cover 16 to 24 square feet, which is 1.5 to 2.2 square metres.
If you were quoted per square foot or per square metre, multiply it by the carton coverage above.
Per square foot or per square metre, matching the choice above. Leave at zero if the planks have underlayment already attached, which many do.
The installer's rate for laying the floor, per square foot or per square metre. Leave at zero if you are laying it yourself.
Tearing out carpet, vinyl or tile and carrying it away, per square foot or per square metre. Tile costs far more to remove than carpet.
Levelling, patching or a moisture barrier, per square foot or per square metre. Often quoted only after the old floor comes up.
In the same unit as the room, so linear feet or linear metres. The room perimeter is worked out for you below, so you can copy it in and take off the doorways.
Per linear foot or per linear metre, matching the choice above.
One at every doorway and wherever the laminate meets another floor covering.
Delivery, a skip, a minimum job charge -- anything billed once rather than by the foot.

Same floor, same materials, priced both ways, so the labour quote can be weighed against a weekend and a tool rental.
