Painting Cost Calculator

This prices a paint job from the surface it actually has to cover. Enter the room size and ceiling height, or a square footage you already have, along with the number of coats, the coverage printed on the can and what you pay per gallon, and it returns the gallons to buy and the total cost. Doorways and windows come off at fixed sizes, while labour and supplies are added only when you enter a rate and an amount. No price list is built in, and painting doors, trim and baseboards, patching, wallpaper removal and cleanup all sit outside the figure.

Metric reads lengths in metres, area in square metres, coverage in square metres per litre, and both the paint price and the labour rate per litre and per square metre.

Measure the floor and the ceiling height. Openings come off at fixed sizes.

Each one comes off at 21 sq ft, or 1.95 m2, of wall. Painting the door itself is separate work.
Each one comes off at 15 sq ft, or 1.39 m2, of wall.
Two is usual. A colour change over a dark wall, or bare drywall, often wants a primer coat on top of that.
Off the can. Most interior paints claim 300 to 400 sq ft a gallon on a smooth, primed surface, which is 7.4 to 9.8 m2 a litre, and less on texture. Blank uses 350 sq ft a gallon.
What a painter charges per square foot, or per square metre, of surface for the whole job, coats included. Leave at zero for a paint-only figure.
Primer, tape, filler, drop cloths, rollers and brushes. Enter what they cost you; nothing is estimated for you.

Walls and ceilings together, with openings already taken off if you are taking them off. Square feet, or square metres if you picked metric above.
