Siding Calculator

This calculator turns a wall measurement into the amount of siding to order, in squares and in boxes. Enter the perimeter and height, or a square footage you already have, then the doors and windows to deduct, a waste allowance and the coverage of one box. It returns the net area, the squares needed, the boxes to buy and a cost built only from the prices you type in. House wrap, trim, soffit, tear-off and painting are not part of that total.

Every measurement and every rate you enter, and every answer below, follows this choice.

Measure around the outside of the walls being sided and take the height from the bottom of the siding to the top of the wall. Openings come off at fixed sizes.

Add up the length of every wall being covered. A 50 ft by 30 ft house all the way round is 160 ft.
All storeys together, not the height of one floor.
Square feet, or square metres. A triangular gable is half its width times its rise, so a 30 ft gable rising 8 ft is 120 sq ft. Add up every gable and dormer face and enter the total. 0 for none.
Each one comes off at 21 sq ft, which is 1.95 sq m. Leave at zero to let the openings pay for the offcuts and the trim around them.
Each one comes off at 15 sq ft, which is 1.39 sq m.
Offcuts at corners, around openings and at the end of a run. 10 percent is usual on a plain wall and 15 or more on a cut-up elevation.
Off the carton, in square feet or square metres to match your choice above. Vinyl is commonly two squares, or 200 sq ft, to a box. Lap siding and shakes differ, so check before ordering. Blank means 200 sq ft, which is 18.58 sq m.
In imperial, what your supplier charges for a square, which is 100 sq ft; in metric, what it charges for a square metre. Divide a box price by the squares, or the square metres, in the box.
Installation quoted per square foot, or per square metre, of wall to match your choice above. Leave at zero for a materials-only figure.
Starter strip, J-channel, corner posts, soffit, utility trim and nails. Enter what they cost you; none of it is estimated for you.
