Wallpaper Calculator

This tool counts the rolls of wallpaper a room needs, which is not the same sum as wall area divided by the area printed on the roll. You enter the wall run you are papering, the ceiling height, the pattern repeat and the roll size, and it returns the cut length of one strip, how many strips come off a roll, the rolls to buy and how much paper the repeat throws away. A second option shows what a single roll covers, so two papers with different repeats can be compared before you buy. Doors and windows are not deducted, because the wall above a door still takes paper from the same strip run.

A blank roll box falls back to the American roll, 20.5 in wide by 33 ft long.

Measure the wall run you are papering and the height, then take the repeat and the roll size off the label.

Add up the width of every wall being papered. All four walls of a 16 ft by 8 ft room is 48 ft; all four walls of a 5 m by 2.5 m room is 15 m.
The vertical repeat printed on the roll label, in inches. Leave at zero for a random match.
Off the label, in the unit chosen above. A US double roll is 20.5 in; a European roll is 53 cm. Left blank you get whichever of the two matches the choice.
A US double roll is about 33 ft; a European roll is 10.05 m, which is very nearly the same paper. Left blank you get the one that matches the choice above.
Spare at the top and bottom of each strip for an uneven ceiling and skirting. Two inches each end is usual, or 5 cm each end. Left blank it is 4 in, or 10 cm.
Leave at zero for a roll count with no cost.
