Fertilizer Calculator

This works out how much fertiliser a target nutrient rate needs, and what rate a given amount actually delivers. Enter the area, the pounds of nitrogen, phosphate or potash you want per 1,000 square feet and the three numbers off the bag, and it returns pounds of product, bags, the area one bag covers and how much of each nutrient lands on the ground. The second mode starts from the product you already have and reports the rate it works out at. Phosphate and potash are reported as P2O5 and K2O the way a label does, with the elemental weights alongside.

Calculator Type
Units
Square feet, or square metres when metric is selected. Length times width for a rectangle, and leave out beds, paths and the house footprint. One acre is 43,560 sq ft; one hectare is 10,000 sq m.
Lawn programmes are written as pounds of nitrogen per 1,000 square feet, or as grams per square metre outside North America. A soil test recommendation for phosphorus or potassium is written in P2O5 and K2O, the same units as the bag.
One pound of nitrogen per 1,000 square feet is the usual single application. A season total is commonly 2 to 4 lb, split across several of them.
Straight off the bag. A 24-0-6 product is 24 here, 0 in the next box and 6 in the one after. A percentage is the same number in either unit system.
Pounds. Leave it blank for a 50 lb bag.
